How Your Home Security System Pays For Itself

Installing a home security system is a no-brainer for a number of reasons.  First, it’s one of the most effective ways to help bolster the safety of the people and things you love.  Second, it’s a smart investment that literally pays for itself in the long run.

Want some hard facts? Every 13 seconds, burglars break into a home in the U.S., according to the FBI.  More than 2 million burglaries are reported every year.  The average losses experienced by victims of home burglary total more than $2,000.  Compare that figure with the price of installing a home security system in your home and preventing the hassle in the first place, and the investment is already starting to prove its value.  Here's another number you should know: Homes protected by some kind of security system are as much as 300% less likely to become targets for crime.

4 Ideas for Keeping your Home Safe on a Budget

So maybe you haven't gotten around to installing a home security system yet, mostly because of the price.  Of course, home security systems featured here on NK Home Security are certainly worth the investment, but there are other, less expensive ways that you can protect your home, or further enhance home security even if you've already bought a system.

Here are a few simple ideas that are cost-effective:

1. Get to know your neighbors so they can be on the lookout when you're out of town.

These days, it's become more rare to really get to know your neighbors.  It's important that you make the effort to form a cohesive community.  Most people DO want to know their neighbors, but no one takes the first step.  As such, why don't you take that step?  When you know your neighbors, not only will they be able to keep an eye out on your home while your away, but a stronger sense of community naturally creates a stronger sense of safety.  Better yet, get together and form a neighborhood watch program.

CCTV Cameras are Making Movie Theaters a Safe Place

Considering the horrific event of the recent shooting at the Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, movie theaters need to follow the lead that other businesses and entertainment venues have taken to better secure and monitor the flow of large groups and crowds.  Most major facilities that support a large gathering of people, such as ballparks, stadiums, hotels, and malls have not only recognized the need to secure and protect their customers, but also the ability to manage the whereabouts of both individuals and the movement of larger flows of people.

The desire while protecting individual safety is to monitor activity and movement as discretely and economically as possible without intruding on individuals or disrupting the entertainment value associated with the venue.

One of the primary means that stadiums, hotels, and malls use to oversee the activity of individuals is through the use of video surveillance.  Video surveillance systems, popularly known as CCTV camera systems, have made huge advances during the last five years through the use of digital and internet communications technology.

How CCTV Cameras Prevent Violence In the Classroom

Violence on the street and in the home has wandered its way into the classroom.  Parents and their children no longer feel that the schoolroom is safe from potential threats.  This large change is mainly due to the devastating murder of twelve students, one teacher and the wounding of 24 others by a two students at Colorado’s Columbine High School.

Students are subjected daily to the possibility of a reenactment of the Columbine tragedy along with the risk of being threatened, beaten, and bullied.  This creates the makings of emotionally strained students in an impractical learning environment.  Other acts such as vandalism, drugs, theft and gang activity has also increased in every grade level.

Security guards and metal detectors were put in place to deter violence and behavioral issues, but their presence is not enough.  Security guards are not able to be in all places at all times and metal detectors cannot detect bombs, drugs and abnormal student behavior.  School districts across the country have turned to CCTV cameras as a tool to identify violators by positioning CCTV cameras in every classroom, hallway, school bus, playground and other common areas where students gather.

The presence of cameras has helped prevent violent acts and inappropriate behavior, as well as the risk of child abductions.  Recordings from CCTV cameras can be instantly replayed by School Administrators.  Students performing Illegal or inappropriate acts can now be identified and held accountable with conclusive proof.  CCTV cameras can provide long range viewing while having the capability to provide crystal clear images.  PTZ cameras can also pan, tilt and zoom, providing maximum coverage without dead spots.  CCTV cameras with infrared can record during the nighttime hours, perform spotting and record break-ins.

There is argument among facility members, parents and their students that the use of CCTV cameras is an invasion of privacy.  Realistically, they are a preventative measure in the protection of those in danger.  CCTV cameras allow for the proper identification and punishment for those committing violent acts and give others a real example to what can happen if they do the same.

Do Dummy Cameras – Fake Security Cameras Work?

Dummy Cameras
Dummy Cameras - Fake Security Cameras

A dummy camera or fake security camera is simply a real security camera without an actual camera inside.  However, a trespasser or burglar won’t be able to tell the difference.

You can successfully deter theft, robbery, and vandalism with a dummy camera—many non-functioning fake cameras such as these can be found in stores.  These dummy cameras look just like real surveillance cameras—a cost effective way of making customers feel as if they’re being watched.  Effective and affordable security.

Your home or office can also benefit from dummy cameras and fake surveillance cameras as well.  Some include a realistic blinking red LED light and a realistic power cable for realism.

Dummy cameras and fake security cameras are a cost-effective way of preventing crime.  Although these dummy cameras can’t actually catch a criminal, studies show that just their presence can help prevent crimes of theft, vandalism, and robbery.

If you’re looking to increase security around your home or office but don’t want to spend money to make this possible, dummy cameras are a good alternative.

It’s always a good idea to have security cameras protecting you, even if you choose to purchase one real camera and fake security cameras for other locations.

A dummy camera will make it look as if you have more surveillance than you actually do, and a burglar won’t be able to tell the difference.

These dummy cameras deter intruders who usually move on because they don’t want to risk getting caught on tape.

How The Elderly Can Benefit From Personal Alarms!

Personal Alarm

Personal alarms are devices that can serve alot of purposes. People from all age groups, irrespective of the gender, can find these devices to be extremely beneficial. However, these alarms can be put to more than one use by the elderly people.

Criminals find it easy to attack elderly people because they cannot defend themselves easily. Most of them do not even carry any self defense weapons that can help them. These personal alarms are available in the form of key chains or small gadgets that can be kept by the bedside at all times. These alarms emit loud sirens that can be heard all around thereby alerting someone to come to their help.

These personal alarms also help to serve as a medical alert button that can be used in situations where they are unable to shout out for help, but need medical assistance. Some of the personal alarms for the elderly are equipped with motion as well as lighting sensors.

Get a personal alarm so you and your family feel better knowing you can get help in any bad situation.

Stun Gun in Checked Baggage

You can’t put stun guns in your checked baggage. Better ship them to your location before you leave.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Two stun guns were found in checked luggage at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport just days after another stun gun was discovered in a plane at a nearby airport, officials said on Tuesday.

A screener with the Transportation Security Administration at JFK detected the two stun guns in the checked luggage of a man waiting to board Lufthansa Flight 405 to Frankfurt, Germany, on Sunday evening, said Lisa Farbstein, a TSA spokeswoman. The man was arrested.

Another Home Invasion

Another home invasion happening to a family that never thought it would happen to them. Alarm systems and early warning devices can help alert you.

Published August 15, 2011 | Associated Press – Five armed men broke into a home in a wealthy North Branford neighborhood, tied up the family for hours and threatened to kidnap a 3-year-old boy in the house if they didn’t get money, police said Monday.

When the intruders left, the homeowner initially could not find his grandson and raced over to his son’s house on the same street to tell him the child had been kidnapped, said Tom Martone, the homeowner’s son.
